As life expectancy continues to rise in Kenya, ensuring economic security in older age remains a growing concern. Many older persons face challenges such as declining health, limited access to financial services, age-unfriendly markets, and digital barriers that hinder their full participation in economic activities. Self-ageism further compounds these challenges, affecting confidence and engagement.
Despite this, older persons hold valuable skills, knowledge, and experience that can contribute meaningfully to society and economic resilience.
This MDFA session focuses on promoting dignity, independence, and financial security in later life by exploring practical livelihood strategies and opportunities for economic empowerment. Through lived experiences shared by older persons and insights from a multi-stakeholder panel, the discussion will highlight existing support systems, investment opportunities, and the importance of building age-inclusive economic environments.
The session ultimately seeks to position older persons as active contributors to development while advocating for inclusive policies and programs that support economic resilience in ageing populations.
