As part of the 2026 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) commemorations, we held an Intergenerational Dialogue Forum in Tabaka, Kisii County, bringing together older persons and youth to discuss the rights, wellbeing, and protection of older persons. Participants shared experiences on the challenges facing older persons, including neglect, abuse, age discrimination, economic insecurity, and limited access to care and support. The dialogue highlighted the importance of strengthening family responsibility, expanding social protection, promoting age-friendly livelihood opportunities, and fostering mutual respect and understanding between generations. The forum concluded with a collective commitment to promote dignity, inclusion, and intergenerational solidarity as key strategies for preventing elder abuse and ensuring that all people can age with dignity.
