Ageing Concern Foundation

Ageing Concern Foundation (ACF), in collaboration with the Media Council of Kenya, recently convened a Media Sensitization Forum on the Social Protection Act, 2025, bringing together journalists and Older Persons Organizations to strengthen media understanding of ageing, social protection, and the rights of older persons. The forum provided a platform for indepth discussions on the opportunities presented by the new Act while highlighting critical gaps in areas such as beneficiary registration, long-term care, dementia and geriatric services, caregiver support, and the need to broaden the public discourse on social protection beyond cash transfer programmes. Participants underscored the vital role of the media in telling balanced, evidence-based stories that reflect the realities, contributions, and dignity of older persons. The forum concluded with a strong call for sustained collaboration between the media, civil society, government, and older persons themselves to foster informed public dialogue, strengthen accountability, and advance policies that ensure no older person is left behind.
