September Monthly Discussion Forum on Ageing- 15th Edition
September is observed globally as World Alzheimer’s Month, a period dedicated to raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, challenging misconceptions, and promoting greater understanding and support for people living with dementia, their families, and caregivers. This year’s theme, “The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters,” highlights the importance of awareness, early diagnosis, timely support, and informed communities.
In line with this global focus, the September Monthly Discussion Forum on Ageing (MDFA) will focus on dementia awareness and early diagnosis through the Inaugural Dementia Symposium 2026. The Symposium will bring together people living with dementia and their families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, community and faith leaders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to strengthen understanding of dementia and promote more supportive and inclusive communities.
Through dialogue, knowledge sharing, lived experiences, and expert perspectives, the Symposium will provide participants with practical information on recognizing dementia, navigating available support, and understanding the importance of early diagnosis. It will also create space to explore emerging research and approaches to dementia care, while highlighting the dignity, rights, and inclusion of people living with dementia.
The September MDFA will therefore provide an important platform for stakeholders to learn, connect, share experiences, and strengthen collective action towards dementia awareness, compassionate care, dignity, and inclusion in Kenya.
