March Monthly Discussion Forum on Ageing

Climate change is increasingly shaping the everyday lives of Kenyans, and older persons are among those most affected by its impacts. Rising temperatures and extreme heat, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and recurrent floods are affecting the health, wellbeing, and daily activities of many older adults. Due to age-related health vulnerabilities and limited access to resources, older persons often face greater risks during such climate events. However, these challenges are not always widely discussed or sufficiently prioritized in policy and planning.

Against this background, the March Monthly Discussion Forum on Ageing (MDFA), themed “Ageing in a Changing Climate: Risks, Realities, and Resilient Responses,” will explore the intersection of climate change and ageing. The forum will highlight the lived experiences of older persons, the realities of climate hazards affecting them, and practical strategies and precautionary measures that communities and institutions can adopt to strengthen resilience and protect their health and wellbeing. It will also bring together community voices and perspectives from key organizations to foster dialogue and identify inclusive responses to the growing impacts of climate change on older persons.
