We participated in the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 2025 National Symposium, which took place on June 16th and 17th at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) in Nairobi. The event was organized by the Directorate of Social Development, under the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
This year’s theme was “Empowering Older Persons: Building Resilient Communities Free from Abuse.” We had the privilege of moderating a panel discussion titled “Technology, Education & Empowerment,” where we examined the role of technology in elder abuse and discussed strategies to empower older persons through education and awareness to help them navigate the challenges of technologically-assisted abuse.
