Ageing Concern Foundation (ACF), in partnership with HelpAge International, convened a national multi-stakeholder forum at Amnesty International Kenya Offices on 12th November 2025, aimed at strengthening Kenya’s engagement in the drafting of a UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons. The forum brought together government representatives, national human rights institutions, parliamentarians, civil society organizations, Older People’s Associations (OPAs), academia, development partners and other key stakeholders to deepen dialogue, enhance awareness, and foster coordinated action on the rights and well-being of older persons in Kenya.
Stakeholders affirmed the critical need for sustained consultation and collective action to secure justice, dignity, and full participation for older people. The dialogue highlighted the prevailing situation of older persons in Kenya, outlining both progress and persistent structural gaps.
The forum took stock of Kenya’s achievements and milestones in promoting the rights of older persons. Participants were briefed on the ongoing UN process, its timelines, rationale, and the roles expected of governments and civil society in shaping the proposed convention. It also created a platform for older persons’ champions to voice the aspirations of older Kenyans for a robust national legal framework that guarantees their rights. Duty bearers present reaffirmed their commitment to support, advance and mobilize for this cause at the national, regional and global levels.
